Marbella's Haiti Fundraising Events

Not wedding related at all, but everyone around the world wants to do their bit to help Haiti and Marbella is no exception.
As Marbella quickly gathers it's finest event suppliers to organise a Haiti fundraising event, every effort is being made by Maurice Boland and Talk Radio Europe to pull together a golf day at Estepona Golf and a fabulous Gala dinner at the elegant La Quinta Golf and Country Club to raise much needed funds for Haiti.
Both events are only 50 euros a ticket each and some wonderful entertainment is currently being organised, so expect an evening to remember.

Maurice Boland will host the gala evening with many interesting artists to entertain you in aid of charity. Every supplier is offering their services for free and all proceeds will be given to the Ark Christian Fellowship based in Fuengirola who already have a long standing relationship with helping Haiti.
Please find more details by clicking here. We hope you can be there, if you can't please contact us if you wish to donate xx

What is a Vintage Wedding?

Ok so I have many brides saying they want a vintage styled wedding but what does this really mean?

When approaching your wedding design much thought needs to be given to exactly what vintage means to you, this will certainly help your wedding stylist/planner pull together elements for your wedding to be in theme, from the initial save the date cards, to the design, decoration, music and cars.

The past century has been a wild ride with changes in every decade.

Starting with the Victorian era, garden tea party style, lace, parasols, big blooms, peonies, large tea roses, cameos, delicate crystal and pearl details and vintage look invitations are all definitely the key for this era.

Then we hit the roaring 20's, The Great Gatsby, sleek satin dresses, headbands, feathers, long pearl necklaces and of course speakeasies, champagne fountains, teacups, and Charleston.

The Art Deco 30's and Big Band 40's styles, Hollywood Glamour, long sleek dresses with shoulder pads, hats with small veils, newspapers, letters and bunting all evocative of the wartime glamour.

Then we move onto the more funky, retro style from the 50's and 60's Audrey Hepburn, beehives, rock and roll, jiving, big skirts and pumps, retro candy and cinemas. Funky floral fabrics Cath Kidston style, cherries, homemade lemonades and ginger beers, alcopops

Finishing off the list of decades for vintage wedding trends is the hippy chick flower power, from the late 60's and 70's, Mamma Mia style weddings with long floating dresses, loose hair styles decorated with flowers, beach sandals, camper vans, peace and love, flower fairies and of course plenty of ribbons.

This currently is where is stops, we have not been asked to do the late seventies disco or the big shoulder pads of the 80's along with Filofax favours as yet! I have no doubt this time next year I will be designing white flares, medallions, disco balls, and listening to the Bee Gees, who I love in anycase!

2010 Wedding Trends

As we have sat indoors for the best part of three weeks listening to the never ending rain outside (which I am pleased to say has stopped today!) we are dreaming of the long hot summer evenings with all our beautiful weddings here in Spain and we are being extremely industrious creating some fabulous wedding designs.

The big colour for 2010 is definitely silver, the antique look silver, with fabulous tealight holders, mirrors and frames everywhere, informal flower arrangements, vintage silver accessories and fascinators for hair decorations. Vintage is still definitely the way forward.

I have also seen a trend, as the recession settles upon us, of couples really wanting to show their appreciation to their guests for making the effort to attend their weddings whether it just be a lovely message written and placed on the tables in a frame, or a token of appreciation. The love of simple but beautiful things has come back and sentimentality is a wonderful emotion to bring into a wedding, this is being reflected as couples want to really say a big thank you, gone are the days of big bling and trying to impress.
Again to show the guests the hosts have really thought about them is providing fun things for the day and thinking slightly outside the box, such as setting up an ice cream stall or perhaps a martini bar.
Candy bars are still popular for 2010 and a relatively cheap way of providing your guests with favours as well as a bit of fun, especially if you have lots of children at your wedding, enjoyment and appreciation is a key element in planning any 2010 weddings.

Vintage Style Weddings

As we lead up to the opening of our new venture (shop) here with Loraine at Earthscent, I am looking for french vintage style inspiration, truly romantic garden tea party settings.
I always think the perfect wedding flower is the peony and we have found these fabulous images again on Once Wed using these lovely 'fabulous fat' flowers, if ever there was a source of Inspiration it is this website, it is truly amazing! I have spent hours on there today :)
Photo frames on tables to either write messages for your guests or displays for table numbers is a definite must for 2010, plus the use of bunting, definitely a cheaper way of creating a festive party feel.
Paper love heart confetti, the old fashioned horse shoe confetti in pastels is back, so much and such fun to think about, but goodness how I am busy!
